As a young boy, I was already exposed to life in a discotheque. My father worked at discotheque 538 in Uithuizen, where he showed films in the cinema at the front of the building. I was friends with one of the sons and grew up playing there.
In 1982, the disco was renovated, and DJ Eddy McCoy (Etwin Zijlstra) was one of the DJs. He bought a lot of imported disco and Italo disco from Italy. In the early afternoon/evening, we were often allowed to try our hand at DJing. Mixing started on the Technics SP15 at the time. I had saved up for the Dual CS 505, which had a small pitch option. I was 11 or 12 when I started mixing.
In the years that followed, I worked in a local record store and was allowed to go along to make purchases at the wholesaler. In the years that followed, I started my own Drive-in Show and played at various parties in the neighborhood. Later, this grew into a professional show. For example, I also performed at the Martini Plaza in Groningen to provide music for musicals. I also organized various local parties, Italo Parties in Tynaarlo, and played at many other parties.
In my early years, 1980-1982, I was mainly interested in disco, especially high-energy disco and electro. I started buying maxi singles in 1983. Records by Lime, Patrick Cowley, NV, but also Time Bandits and early synthpop. Later, from 1986 onwards, this became mainly Italo Disco, and then on the original pressings from Italy. At one point, I had a collection of over 2000 original pressings and various complete labels. After the 80s, we entered the House period, in which some leaned towards Techno and others towards the melodic sounds of Trance. In between, there was a short period from 1994 to 1997 in which I bought a lot of Italo House (Euro Dance). Like Italo Disco, and later Trance, this style also had the most beautiful melodies.
I make a lot of mixes in my studio. I also focus on making mashups and producing. Trance, 90s dance music, and Italo disco remain my passion. Fortunately, I share this hobby with many friends. The DJs from Trance on Intense, Peet Need, Dennis (Zinne), Eric, Rene, (RMS), and Patrick, but also our Italo Disco friends. Otherwise, this hobby would be pointless.
You can find me as DJ Sander, S.N.D.R, or Revolution Mixes.
I hope you will enjoy our mixes for many years to come.
